How should the image fit?
File format

Exam forms almost always want JPG. PNG can't be squeezed to a KB limit; WebP can.

Some portals ask for 200 DPI. This does not change the pixels.

Improve quality

When you need a 100 KB image

  • Scanned certificates, mark sheets and ID cards.
  • Handwritten declarations (often 50–100 KB).
  • Email attachments that must stay small.

How to get the best result at 100 KB

  1. Choose your photo — the largest file size is already set to 100 KB.
  2. If the form gives pixel dimensions, enter them in the width and height boxes.
  3. Download the JPG and check the size shown on the download button’s status line.

Scanned documents at 100 KB

For a certificate, mark sheet or ID card, the aim is text that a person can read, not a beautiful picture. 100 KB is enough for one printed page if the photo of it is flat, bright and close.

Readable text at 100 KB

  • Normal printed text on a full A4 page is usually readable at about 1,000–1,200 pixels across. A phone photo has far more pixels than that, and squeezing all of them into 100 KB makes the letters blocky.
  • You do not have to work this out yourself. When the quality would drop too low, the tool makes the picture smaller first, so the text stays clean.
  • Before you download, zoom into the preview. If you can read the smallest line, such as a roll number or a date, the person checking it can too.
  • An ID card or half a page has less to show, so it keeps more detail at the same size.

Photographing an A4 page with your phone

  1. Put the page flat on a table near a window. A darker table makes the edges of the paper easy to see when you crop.
  2. Hold the phone straight above the page, not at an angle, so the lines of text stay straight and the same size from top to bottom.
  3. Fill the screen with the page and keep all four corners in view. Do not zoom with two fingers; move the phone closer instead.
  4. Turn off the flash. On a laminated card or glossy paper it leaves a white patch that hides the text.
  5. Crop to the edges of the paper in your gallery, then choose the cropped photo here.

Grey paper? Clean it to white

Indoors, white paper usually comes out grey or yellow in a photo. Grey paper makes text harder to read, and it wastes bytes, because the camera’s grain on the grey takes space the text could use. The Clean background to pure white option fixes this. It is on the declaration resizer, as well as the signature and thumb impression pages. For a certificate, open the declaration resizer, choose Custom size in step 1, and set the largest file size to 100 KB under More options. The page keeps its shape and the paper turns white.

Several pages? Compress each one, then join them into one file with JPG to PDF.

Need a different size? Use the compress to any KB tool. Filling an exam form? The exam photo resizer sets the size and KB range once you pick your exam.

Portals disagree on whether 1 KB is 1,000 or 1,024 bytes. Files from this tool stay under the maximum and over the minimum by both definitions, so a “50 KB max” limit is never exceeded by a few bytes.

Frequently asked questions

Will the file be exactly 100 KB?

It will be at or just under 100 KB. Being slightly under is safe for every portal; going over by even a few bytes is what causes rejections.

Does this work on my phone?

Yes — it runs in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Samsung Internet on Android and iPhone.

Can a full A4 page stay readable at 100 KB?

Usually, yes, for printed text, if the page is flat, well lit and cropped to the paper. The tool lowers the pixels before the text turns blocky. Zoom into the preview to check the smallest print.

Why does my scanned certificate look grey?

Indoor light makes white paper look grey or yellow in photos. Take the photo near a window in daylight, or use Clean background to pure white on the declaration resizer with Custom size.

My form wants a PDF under 100 KB, not a JPG. What do I do?

Use JPG to PDF and pick 100 KB under Keep the PDF under. The tool fits every page under that limit; with many pages each one has less room, so leave out pages the form does not ask for.
